Scholarship Drive for Calyx and Beau Schenecker Begins Monday

The teens were allegedly killed by their mother in early 2011.

Since then, local GrillSmith restaurants have participated in a scholarship drive for the Calyx and Beau Schenecker Memorial Fund. The second annual drive runs from Sept. 17-21 at all six GrillSmith locations including the Carrollwood restaurant at 14303 N. Dale Mabry Highway. Other locations are in south Tampa, New Tampa, Clearwater/Countryside, Brandon and Lakeland.

A portion of total sales from the week will be donated to the memorial fund, which was established by the teenagers' father with the hopes of providing "leadership, athletic and performing arts opportunities for promising Tampa Bay-area teenagers," said Wendy Stewart, communications coordinator for Front Burner Brands, the management company for GrillSmith.

"Supporting this cause helps the fund grant more opportunities to the youth of Tampa Bay," Stewart said, "and honors the memory of two young teens who were taken too soon."
