Grandparents Honored At Corbett Prep

Corbett Prep kicks off holiday season with family and friends.

This news comes from Corbett Preparatory School: During the week of Thanksgiving, Corbett Preparatory School of IDS students spent the morning sending the message “Today is a grand day!” Grandparents and grandfriends from all over the world including Turkey, Venezuela, India, and Mexico were honored guests as students from PreK3-eighth grade sang, danced, and acted on the stage, in the aisles, and all over the gym in the joyous Corbett Prep kick off to the holiday season. After the  performances, students and their grandparents shared special moments together in the classrooms with their teachers. Corbett students learn about America's past.

Dressed in their vests, collars, and aprons, PreK4 and Kindergarten Pilgrims and their teachers at Corbett Preparatory School of IDS located in Carrollwood set sail aboard the Mayflower recently to begin the journey to America. Once they made landfall and ran down the gangplank, the Corbett Prep Pilgrims went straight to work learning about America’s past in the daily lives of the early settlers and the first Thanksgiving.  Reenacting the work the early settlers faced that first long, cold winter, the students set about making candles, washing clothes, making butter, woodworking, thatching a roof, planting and harvesting. The young Pilgrims enjoyed a visit from Squanto who taught them how to use fish as fertilizer, and they were able to …

Corbett Prep Students Help Superstorm Sandy Victims

The students have collected 320 lbs. of coats, as well as winter wear, school supplies, and novels for another school ravaged by Sandy.

In the spirit of solidarity and support, Corbett Prep sixth grade Student Council representatives reached out to their fellow middle schoolers thousands of miles away. Far Rockaway, an island peninsula, was one of the hardest hit places in the northeast when Superstorm Sandy ravaged the area, and most of the students at P.S. 53 were left without heat and power. Middle school students from Corbett Prep of IDS were led by seven sixth grade representatives and English teacher Kat Quin. The group immediately jumped in to help. “They took to their closets. With only one day’s notice, the middle school rallied to donate more than 100 jackets as well as school supplies and novels for teachers’ classrooms," she said. "The students have already …
