Anderson Road Ramps Closing For Construction

The Veterans Expressway ramps will be closed starting May 19.

A major step in the $386 million Veterans Expressway widening project will begin May 19 when the Anderson Road ramps will close to motorists. That means if you normally use the northbound off or southbound on ramps during your commute your commute from Carrollwood or Northdale, you'll have to rethink your travel plans, according to Florida's Turnpike. Drivers will have to use the Waters on ramp and Linebaugh off-ramp when traveling. The entire Veterans Expressway project will include the widening of 11 miles of road from four to eight lanes. Pedestrian Killed Crossing Anderson Road

A Georgia man was struck by a van while crossing at the Veterans Expressway off-ramp.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a Friday night traffic fatality. At about 10:20 p.m., Clarence Harry Smitherman, 63, of Georgia, was walking across Anderson Road at the intersection of the Veterans Expressway off-ramp against a “Do Not Cross” signal, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office. Michael Antonio Walker, 42, of Tampa, was driving a van on Anderson Road and did not have time to react to Smitherman, who was wearing dark clothing, the sheriff office said.
