Anti-Walmart, WaWa Group Not Giving Up Fight

A Hillsborough County hearing master approved the zoning despite large opposition.

Hillsborough Zoning Master Steve Luce has recommended approval of a proposed zoning for a Walmart neighborhood grocery and a Wawa convenience store and gas station on the northwest corner of Floyd Road. The decision comes after a contentious zoning meeting held last month when more than 200 members of the 813CARe organization showed up in protest of the zoning. They cited depreciating property values, traffic woes and environmental risk as reasons to deny the zoning. Residents Turn Out for Road Rally Against Floyd Road Development

A private developer wants to build a Walmart and Wawa convenience store in the area.

During Wednesday morning rush hour, they donned red shirts and held signs while drivers made their way down Dale Mabry for their commutes to work and school. Their purpose: Proclaiming their opposition to a rezoning project. Members of 813CARe, a grass roots organization that stands for Carrollwood Against Rezoning, organized their first road rally this morning to voice their concerns about the rezoning of commercial space by a Florida-based development company called Brightwork to build a Walmart and Wawa convenience store on the northwest corner of Floyd Road.
