TIA Flights Delayed, Canceled as Winter Storms Pummel Country

Be sure to check your flight status before heading out from Carrollwood and Northdale.

Planning to escape before the holiday break is over, or just want to send your Christmas guests safely on their way home? Before you head out from your Carrollwood or Northdale home for Tampa International Airport, you may want to check the status of your flight. TIA has a number of departing flights listed as delayed as a major snowstorm pummels portions of the country, including the West and the Northeast. Incoming flights are also delayed and some cancellations have been logged. Snow is forecast throughout much of the country today, Dec. 26, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Big Changes To Pick Up Lanes at Tampa Airport

Coming later this month, if you're picking someone up at Tampa International Airport, you won't be able to park and wait for them at baggage claim.

When officials at Tampa International Airport designed the cell-phone waiting lot, they hoped it would cut down on traffic congestion at the pick up area near baggage claim on the arrivals side of the airport. Even though the lot is complete with a giant board for flight information, wireless Internet access and restrooms, the congestion returned only a few weeks after the new waiting area was introduced. The days of sitting in your car for 20 minutes while your friends get their luggage are over. Starting Dec. 20, expect a new crackdown on that congestion near baggage claim. Hurricane Sandy Flight Cancellations in Tampa Bay

Need to find out if your flight to the Northeast is grounded? Here are some resources to help you out.

As Hurricane Sandy prepares to make landfall in the Northeast, a number of flights to and from the Tampa Bay area are cancelled. Travelers are being advised to check on the status of their flights before they leave for Bay area airport such as Tampa International, Sarasota Bradenton and St. Petersburg/Clearwater. Here is a list of resources you can use to find out if your flight is grounded: To find out more about a departing, arriving or rescheduled flights, check directly with the airline you purchased your ticket from. Hurricane Sandy Wreaks Havoc on Bay Area Travel

The storm’s impending impact on the Northeast is affecting flights out of and into Tampa International Airport.

Just because Hurricane Sandy has passed the Tampa Bay area by doesn’t mean she’s not having an impact on the region. An estimated 76 cancelations have been logged at Tampa International Airport for Monday. Nearly half of those cancelations are departures, according to the Tampa Bay Times. TIA’s website has a simple message posted for travelers: Multiple flights to and from Tampa International Airport have been canceled for Monday, Oct. 29 due to Hurricane Sandy. Travelers should check with their airline before going to the airport. Sarasota Bradenton International and St. Petersburg/Clearwater International airports have not posted Sandy-related messages for travelers on their websites.
