While the week is expected to have a wet start, forecasters say a dry stretch is on the way.
Rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for the kickoff of the workweek, but forecasters say Carrollwood area residents shouldn’t expect that to last long. Monday’s rains are expected to give way to a week of rising temperatures and dry conditions. “The rest of the week stays dry until next Sunday (when there’s) a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon,” said Richard Rude, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Ruskin office. Highs throughout the week are expected to climb to into the mid- to upper-80s range. Lows will only fall to the lower 60s at the lowest. While a nice week is on the horizon, residents should prepare for some potentially hazardous conditions on Monday, April 22. Rude said Monday would deliver …

The tornado watch expires at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4. Torrential rains are also expected throughout Thursday.
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Pinellas and Hillsborough counties until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4. Other counties included in the watch are Sarasota, Desoto, Charlotte and Manatee. The Weather Service also issued a special statement about strong thunderstorms in the area. "Gusty winds of 35 to 45 mph will occur," the weather service reported. "Torrential rains will reduce visibility to near zero and will cause ponding of water on roadways." Thursday's storms also bring the risk of "damaging winds, hail, isolated tornadoes and frequent dangerous lightning strikes," the weather service said. According to the National Weather Service, winds will increase the small craft advisory level and remain elevated through …
The potential for lightning, damaging winds and hail is possible, but forecasters say the bad weather will clear out by the weekend.
The National Weather Service is urging Carrollwood residents to keep an eye on the sky April 4-5, but says the potential for severe weather will fade as we head into the weekend. The forecast for Thursday, April 4 calls for “more off-and-on showers and thunderstorms through tonight,” said Paul Close, a weather service meteorologist. “There’s a 70 to 80 percent chance of rain.” Rain alone, however, isn’t all Tampa Bay residents are likely to see. “Some of those storms later today or tonight (April 4) could be severe with damaging winds, hail and maybe an isolated tornado or two,” Close said. It’s possible the wet weather will continue into Friday, Close said, but things should clear up by the afternoon. “The rest of the weekend is beautiful…

The arrival of a cold front will put a chill in the air most of this week.
Just because the calendar says it’s springtime doesn’t mean Mother Nature got the memo. Forecasters are predicting a blast of winter-like weather to hit the Carrollwood area over the next few days. The National Weather Service says the cold front won’t bring temperatures down to freezing, but with the wind chill factor added in it will feel close. The forecast for Monday night (March 25) calls for a low in the low 40s for Carrollwood and Northdale with an early morning feels-like temperature down around 38 degrees on Tuesday. The high Tuesday is expected to only climb to about 60 degrees. Patchy frost is possible overnight Tuesday with a low around 34 anticipated going into Wednesday moring. Things stay pretty much the same through …

The National Weather Service is asking residents to be mindful of conditions as they go about their day, Feb. 26.
A tornado watch is in effect in the Carrollwood and Northdale areas through 3 p.m. today, Feb. 26. According to the National Weather Service’s Ruskin office, that means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes. Meteorologist Rick Davis says the threat of severe weather is possible later this morning and into this afternoon as “kind of a squall line will move through the area. The potential is there for isolated tornadoes and damaging wind gusts.” Thunderstorms are also possible. Davis urges Carrollwood residents to keep an eye on the weather as they go through their day. If a tornado warning is issued for the area it means a tornado has been spotted and residents should “seek safety until the warning passes.” While today’s…

Forecasters are calling for rain to clear out as the long Presidents Day weekend approaches.
Grab those umbrellas if you’re heading out in the Carrollwood and Northdale areas, today, Feb. 14. The National Weather Service’s Ruskin office says the cold front that pushed through the area yesterday, causing some heavy rains and gusty winds, is likely to create more storms on Thursday and possibly again on Friday. Meteorologist Robert Garcia says area residents can expect fairly gloomy skies on Thursday with rain chances up in the 80 percent range. Severe weather, however, isn’t anticipated but an occasional thunderstorm might make an appearance. Aside from light sprinkles to pockets of heavy rain and some gusty winds, “(it’s going to be) just a gloomy looking day,” Garcia says. Rain chances diminish on Friday, but sprinkles are still …

Carrollwood and Northdale residents can plan for a weekend with mostly sunny skies and low rain chances.
As most of the northeast prepares for up to 2 feet of snow, Carrollwood and Northdale residents can pull out their shorts, T-shirts and sunglasses. According to the National Weather Service, a comfortable weekend lies ahead in the Tampa Bay area. This morning’s gray skies should give way to a day that’s mostly sunny with temperatures that climb to the mid-70s. The low tonight, Feb. 8, will fall in around the mid-50s. The forecast for Saturday and Sunday calls for much the same with a slight increase in both the high and low temperatures. Residents should prepare for warmer weather heading into the workweek. The high for Monday is expected to reach about 80. Rain chances remain low throughout the weekend and into the workweek, according to …

Chilly mornings and mild afternoons are on tap for most of the week.
As temperatures in the Tampa Bay area dip for the first time in the fall season, Carrollwood and Northdale area residents are enjoying the change of pace. A quick query on the Carrollwood-Northdale Patch Facebook page this morning yielded near-instant likes when readers were asked what they thought about the mild weather that’s carried forward from the weekend. Reader Angelica Maria summed it up the best. All she had to say was “perfect!” While we’ve seen a nice drop in the high and low temperatures as Hurricane Sandy passed the state, the National Weather Service’s forecast shows it’s not likely to continue for long. Even so, the forecast for the Carrollwood and Northdale areas does call for a few more mild days. Expect a high in the …

It's too early to know with certainty. Tampa is still in the cone of possible tracks, but Isaac may arrive west of Tampa Bay early next week.
We're not in the clear just yet. At 8 a.m. today, Tropical Storm Isaac churned at sea, just south of Haiti, where a hurricane watch is in effect. The National Weather Service expects the storm to crawl at about 15 mph toward Florida, crossing Cuba Sunday morning. But hurricane officials are not anticipating a direct hit on the Tampa Bay region. If current projections stand, Isaac will arrive west of Tampa Bay after midnight Tuesday as a Category 1 hurricane. There is a chance that Isaac will impact Florida's panhandle next week. Of course, all that may change with the unpredictability of the storm as it edges closer to landfall, hurricane officials said. According to National Weather Service meteorologist Nicole Carlisle, the Tampa Bay …

Rain chances remain low throughout the weekend.
After days of afternoon showers and torrential downpours, Carrollwood and Northdale residents are probably ready for a break. It looks like they’ll get it! According to the National Weather Service, the weekend forecast for the area should deliver lots of sunshine with very few chances for rain. Today’s outlook is sunny and hot with a high temperature in the lower 90s. While some clouds and light winds are likely, the conditions are ripe to give us a feels like temperature that’s just shy of 100 degrees. Saturday is shaping up to deliver more of the same with a high in the lower 90s and lows in the upper 70s. Rain chances do creep back in on Sunday, but only isolated thunderstorms are anticipated. For a complete look at Carrollwood and …
