Fans of radio-controlled cars have one less place to enjoy their hobby at the moment. The RC track at Lake Park in the Northdale area is currently closed in preparation for an overhaul. Safety concerns necessitated the razing of a building at the site, according to Hillsborough County spokeswoman Kemly Jimenez Green. The county hopes to rebuild the building at the site at some point in the future. Right now, however, “we do not have a timeline at this time of when it will be built,” Green wrote in an email. It's time to get outside and get paddling, according to Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation. The county is now offering affordable access to Hillsborough County’s waterways. Four-hour canoe/kayak rentals are offered for $25 at several Hillsborough County Regional Parks. A park entry fee will also apply at $2 per vehicle carrying up to eight people, and $1 each additional person. Only cash, check and traveler’s check payments are accepted payment. The following Hillsborough County parks offer canoe and kayak rentals: Canoes or kayaks can be rented on-site at each entry station. Rentals at Upper Tampa Bay Park are conducted within the on-site environmental studies building. Those wishing to rent a canoe or kayak must be 18 years old, …

Smoke may be evident in the area around Lake Park today, but officials say there’s no cause for alarm. The Florida Forestry Service and the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department are teaming up to conduct a prescribed burn today, Nov. 9 at the 17302 N. Dale Mabry Highway park. The burn is expected to last one day and is being conducted for site management and hazardous fuels reduction purposes, according to a media release from Hillsborough County. Carrollwood and Northdale area residents might see or smell a little smoke again today. But there's no cause for concern, officials say. The Florida Forest Service is conducting a prescribed burn for the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department today (Thursday, July 5) at Lake Park, 17302 N. Dale Mabry in Lutz. This is the second time recently a controlled burn has taken place at the park. The burn will last one day. The purpose of the burn is for ecological site management and hazardous fuels reduction. The best part about these staycations is the cost. An annual entrance pass for all county parks can be purchased online.
