Hillsborough County library officials are saying the Bearss Avenue regional library will not reopen until after Saturday, May 25 at the earliest.
Patrons of the Jimmie B. Keel Regional Library are going to have to wait another few days at least before the doors reopen for regular business. The 2902 W. Bearss Ave. library closed for emergency repairs following Tuesday’s heavy rainstorms. The inside of the library suffered some water damage and workers have been on the scene drying things out ever since. There’s “no word yet on how much damage was done or a cost estimate” for repairs, said Travis Abercrombie, the library system’s spokesman. Abercrombie did have some good news to pass along. “Initial reports are that no books were damaged.” As it stands now, Abercrombie said the library will remain closed through Saturday, May 25. The situation will be reassessed over the weekend. …

Tuesday afternoon rain storms caused flooding at the regional library.
Patrons who pulled up to the Jimmie B. Keel Regional Library on Wednesday couldn’t check out books, but they could make drop offs. That’s because the 2902 W. It remains unclear when the library will reopen for business, but the county says curbside service is available between the hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to help patrons that need to drop off books, pay fines or pick up books that are on hold. The county did say the library will be …

Some voters mistakenly headed to the Jimmie B. Keel Regional Library to vote in today's primary election instead of their precinct.
Diane Warholic sat in an Army green fold out chair on Tuesday morning beneath the shade of the Jimmie B. Keel Regional Library on Bearss Avenue. Warholic, a primary election volunteer whose community service earnings will go toward the Sertoma Club as part of an Adopt-A-Precinct program, said voter turnout had been slow at the Carrollwood library. One thing the retired teacher noticed as voters trickled in to cast ballots for everything from U.S. Senate to Hillsborough County School Board was a misconception about where to vote. "They came here (the library) for early voting, but they have to vote in the primary at their precincts," Warholic said. "Not everybody can come here to vote in the primary." Clerk Pam Gall echoed Warholic's …
