Jimmie B. Keel Library Construction: What To Expect

Construction is about to begin at the library and there are a few things you should know.

After construction is complete at the Jimmie B. Keel Library there will be 10,000 more square feet at the 2902 W. Bearss Ave. building. That means a bigger children's room, more community rooms for library programs additional study space, a bigger book store amd more parking. The $2 million construction project should be complete in December 2013, said Swati Bose, manager of Hillsborough County architectural services. Library hours will remain the same, Bose said. But until the project is complete library goers will need to contend with a few changes. Library Offers Webinar on Buying Hottest Tech Toys of the Holiday Season

The program will be presented at the Jimmie B. Keel Library Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. or from any remote location with Internet access.

Confused about what to buy when it comes to tech toys? The Tampa-Hillsborough County Library System is offering some help. On Wednesday, Dec. 12 from 3 to 3:45 p.m., the library system will offer a live webinar discussing the hottest tech toys of the holiday season. Hosted by LearnSurge, the program will offer an unbiased look at the gaming systems, toys, computers, phones and more, and help buyers sort through the overload of information available online, in magazines and on TV. Jimmie B. Keel Library Expansion to Begin Before Year Ends

The expansion would add more space for the children's library area.

Construction on the expansion of Jimmie B. Keel Library will begin before the end of the year, according to Hillsborough County officials. "If everything works out, we expect it to be in December," said Swati Bose, manager of Hillsborough County architectural services. Funding for the $2 million renovation was included in the recently approved Hillsborough County budget. The expansion will include adding 10,000 square feet to the east side of the building, increasing the children's library area and adding a multi-purpose room. A new entrance at the east and north sides of the building would be added, as well, as a new vending area. The expansion is scheduled to be complete in December 2013. I am thrilled to see the county spending money on Jimmie B. Keel, especially on the children's area. The younger we get kids interested in reading, the more the world becomes their oyster. Education is very important and public libraries are very important places especially for people of little means.   more ›
