Nineteen students from Independent Day School-Corbett Campus were selected this year to participate in the 2011-2012 Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP). Duke TIP's 7th Grade Talent Search is the largest program of its kind in the nation. Duke TIP identifies academically talented seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school. Candidates are then invited to take the ACT or the SAT as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. In addition, they gain valuable benefits and resources for gifted students. The IDS-CC students qualified for the Duke Tip program by scoring at or above the 95th percentile on a standardized achievement test…

Jellicle Cats will come to the Jellicle Ball at Independent Day School-Corbett Campus when musical theatre students in the IDS-CC Community School of the Arts perform the legendary Broadway hit, CATS in June. The IDS-CC Community School of the Arts is staging two productions of the play. The youth cast features students in grades 3-8, and includes a "Kitten Chorus" of PreK-second graders. The high school cast includes students in grades 9-12. Youth cast performances will take place on Thursday, June 7 and Friday, June 8 at 7 p.m., and on Saturday June 9 and Sunday June 10 at 11 a.m. The high school cast will perform on Saturday, June 9 and Sunday, June 10 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. All performances will be held in the Farish Center on the IDS-CC…

Eighth-grader Matheus Caldeira is one of 100 students in Florida to qualify for participation at the state level of the National Geographic Bee

Where in the world is eighth grader Matheus Caldeira? On March 30, the student at Independent Day School-Corbett Campus will be in Jacksonville for the state-level round of the National Geographic Bee. Matheus is one of only 100 students from across Florida to qualify as a semifinalist for the national competition. Following a preliminary bee that involved all IDS-CC middle schoolers, Matheus and 10 other students competed in a school-level bee. The final question in the championship round of that competition was: "Timbuktu, a center of caravan trade for almost a thousand years, is located north of the Niger River in which landlocked country?" By correctly answering "Mali," Matheus won the opportunity to take a 70-question test, which …

The camps are open to all, including students who don't attend Independent Day School's Corbett Campus in Carrollwood
Think summer camp, and memories of cabins, hiking trips and fishing expeditions come to mind. But summer camp at Independent Day School's Corbett Campus at 12015 Orange Grove Drive is anything but traditional. Campers can learn how to produce films, bake cookies and sharpen their chess skills, among other skills, during Camp IDS from June 11 until July 27. Camp runs from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., with free extended care in the morning. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are available for purchase daily at the Camp IDS Warriors Oasis Cafe, and camp is open to all students - whether they attend IDS or not.
