U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis is inviting Carrollwood
residents to an “interactive budget workshop” April 3.
Carrollwood residents who have always wanted to have a say in how America spends its money will get the chance Wednesday, April 3. U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Palm Harbor, is inviting residents who are willing to drive a short distance to take part in an interactive budget workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rasmussen College, 18600 Fernview St. in Land O’ Lakes. Bilirakis has been publicizing the upcoming meeting on his House website and also through automated calls that went out to local homes in the last few days. Bilirakis represents District 12 in Congress. Gus Bilirakis paid tribute Friday to Walter Hilgart, who continues to substitute at age 90 and doesn't plan to stop anytime soon.
U.S. Congressman Gus Bilirakis spent some time Friday giving recognition to a longtime Tampa Bay educator. Walter Hilgar, a New Port Richey resident, has worked as a substitute teacher at Gulf High since 1988. He celebrated his 90th birthday this past October. Gulf High celebrated the 90th birthday of the school that same month. Hilgart grew up during the Great Depression. He enlisted in the military and flew 22 combat missions in the Army Air Force by the end of World War II. He left the service but later re-enlisted in the military and served in the Air Force. Hilgart later worked as a full-time teacher in Tampa for 16 years. After retiring, he started his current lengthy run as a substitute teacher at Gulf High. He also substitutes at …

The Carrollwood Kiwanis Club meets on Wednesdays at Brunchies in Carrollwood, featuring guest speakers and networking over lunch at the popular eatery off north Dale Mabry. Last week, the organization welcomed U.S. Representative Gus Bilirakis, who represents Florida's 9th congressional district. Did you attend the meeting?
