The free workshop theme is “Take Control of Your Choices.”
The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay is hosting a workshop on September 6 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. According to the organization's website, “Participants of this workshop will be introduced to five values of a positive lifestyle which can be utilized on an individual bases to restore ones future and live with freedom.” Session will be held at One Crisis Center Plaza off Bearss Avenue. Due to the impending inclement weather conditions caused by Tropical Storm Isaac, and for the safety of clients, employees and volunteers, non-essential operations and services of the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay will be closed on Monday, August 27, 2012. Essential service areas of 2-1-1/Crisis Hotline, Sexual Assault Services and TransCare Medical Transportation Services, will remain open on Monday to serve the community. Normal business operations will resume on Tuesday, August 28. Stay with Patch for updates on closings as they become available.

This just in from the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay: Seven sessions on topics such as peace, harmony, love, success and happiness will be presented as part of a series of Survivor Self-Empowerment Workshops – “Taking Control of Your Choices,” from August through November at the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. Adrienne Finn is the client resource services manager at the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay in north Tampa.
Standing on the Sunshine Skyway bridge, the man told the woman on the other end of the line that he was going to jump. He didn't want to talk about what was troubling him. That didn't stir Adrienne Finn, then working as a crisis specalist answering calls for 2-1-1, Hillsborough County's help line that connects callers to the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. "In a scenario like that, he's standing on the ledge, and you're stressed about the fact that if I say the wrong thing, would he jump?" Finn said. Officials at the Center at One Crisis Center Plaza in north Tampa can be reached at 2-1-1
There aren’t many programs in today’s world that help real people with real needs in real time. Enter Every Cent Counts, an outreach program of the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. The web-based program, formally launched in May, allows individuals to donate directly to those in need. Typically, the needs are simple. From a bus pass for a child to receive the counseling they need to basic toiletries for a woman and children who escaped an abusive relationship or grocery items for a senior citizen who can't leave their home. Every Cent Counts offers a way for the public to make an impact right here in Tampa Bay with a donation that is as small as the cost of a cup of coffee. The event was held last week
Last week, 30 volunteers from Jabil in St. Petersburg and the Tampa Bay Lightning worked inside and outside of The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay in north Tampa to make the grounds a nicer looking place for our clients and staff. The projects including landscaping, stocking and organizing the food pantry, cleaning the Trauma Recovery Room floor and re-arranging the Children's Play Room and Family Stabilizations Services closets and cleaning out several refrigerators. At the conclusion of the morning's projects the Crisis Center treated all the volunteers to a pizza lunch. Check out some photos from the event.
