While you prepare to say goodbye to your high school senior at Carrollwood-area high schools like Gaither or Chamberlain, feel free to take photos of them and send them to us via email for a photo gallery we can post on the site. From a Hillsborough County news release: Hillsborough County’s Parks, Recreation and Conservation reminds all parents that summer camp registration will be held on Saturday, May 5 at All People’s Life Center, 6105 East Sligh Ave. in Tampa. Parking opens at 7 a.m., doors will open at 8 a.m., and registration begins at 10 a.m. Entrance and parking is at the back of the building. Required forms, a sample notarized parent consent, and information on all county camps are available online at www.hillsboroughcounty.org/summercamps. More than 15 different summer day camps will be offered from June 18 – Aug. 10. The following is from a Hillsborough County media release: The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners will recognize six youth leaders - including two who attend Carrollwood-area schools - on Wednesday, May 2, with the County’s Youth Excellence and Achievement Awards (YEA! Awards). The YEA! Awards will be presented at 9 a.m. on Wednesday in the Commission Chambers on the second floor of the County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa. The YEA! Awards recognize three middle and three high school students in Hillsborough County who have displayed initiative, innovation, a commitment to themselves and others, and a pursuit of excellence in a leadership capacity. The county's YEA! Awards will be held in early May
Hillborough County Commissioners are honoring six youth leaders during the Youth Excellence and Achievement Awards Ceremony in May for work they've contributed to their communities. Two students being honored attend schools in the Carrollwood area: Lauryn Thomas of Adams Middle School, who will be honored in a category titled "Success Despite Difficult Odds," and Jessica Scanlon of Chamberlain High School in the leadership category. Thomas, 12, is a sixth grader who county officials say is blind in her left eye. Even so, Thomas is an honor roll student who wants to become a music teacher. Team Duct Tape is comprised of local students competing in a championship this spring
They spend weekends putting their love of technology and engineering to work, building robots and programming them to operate independently. Now, a community-based team of students in the FIRST robotics team - For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology - is raising money for a trip to St. Louis after earning a spot in the FIRST Championship. A fundraiser to raise $10,000 to send the members of Team Duct Tape - made up of 12 local kids ages 13-18 - to the championship competition will be held on Thursday, March 15, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Sweet Tomatoes, 14703 N.
