The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is warning Carrollwood area residents to be mindful of crime prevention when leaving their cars unattended in parking lots.
There’s good news, bad news and news you can use on the auto burglary front in the Carrollwood area. The good news is that auto burglaries are technically down in the community, according to Cristal Bermudez-Nunez, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office. The bad news is that there were nearly 20 burglaries in the immediate Carrollwood area between April 1-27, according to the sheriff’s office’s online crime mapping tool. So, what’s the news you can use? The sheriff’s office says auto burglaries are often preventable if residents take a few steps to deter thieves who might want to snatch a purse, grab a wallet or swipe a CD left on a seat. Deputies say two men helped themselves to three stacks of Sean John clothing from the Westfield Citrus Park Macy’s.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies say two men with a penchant for designer togs swiped $2,346 in merchandise and then made their getaway in a black Smart car. Now, deputies are turning to Carrollwood area residents to help them solve the crime. The shoplifting in question occurred March 19 around 7 p.m. when two men entered the Westfield Citrus Park Macy’s, 7801 Citrus Park Town Center, through the south-side entrance. The men picked up three stacks of Sean John merchandise and walked out without paying. The estimated price tag on the duds tops $2,300, deputies said in a media release. Hillsborough deputies charged him with 100 counts of possession of child pornography as part of Operation Cyber Storm.
Warren Dale Schmidt, 55, of Carrollwood was one of six men arrested recently as the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office’s Internet Predator Unit cracked down on child pornography through “Operation Cyber Storm.” Deputies say Schmidt, who lives at 15012 Shaw Road, was charged with 100 counts of possession of child pornography as a result of the operation, which sought to tamp down on individuals countywide who were “proliferating illicit graphic material involving very young children,” a sheriff’s office media release states. Operation Cyber Storm was a two and a half month investigation that resulted in 10 search warrants and six arrests on a total of 337 felony counts of possession of child pornography, the release states. The West Fletcher Avenue bank was robbed March 4 just before 10 a.m.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for help in catching a man they say robbed Century Bank, 716 W. Fletcher Ave., just before 10 a.m. Monday, March 4. Deputies say a man entered the bank at 9:52 a.m., approached a teller and handed over a demand note. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the man fled the bank in a silver sedan, a sheriff’s office media release sates. The suspect is described as a black man between 5 feet, 8 inches and 6 feet in height. He was last seen wearing a dark windbreaker, jeans, a dark-colored baseball cap and dark shoes. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office believes two men wanted in connection with robberies in the Carrollwood area are also connected to other robberies in Lutz and beyond.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is looking for help identifying two men it says robbed two Land O’ Lakes area stores in the early morning hours of Feb. 20. Deputies say the men are believed to be connected to at least seven cases that span into Hillsborough County, including one in Carrollwood. On Feb. 20, the first incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when the Shell gas station at 3435 N. Lakeview Drive in the Carrollwood area was struck. A short while later, armed robbers hit the 18902 N. Dale Mabry Highway 7-Eleven in Lutz. Also on Feb. 20 there were incidents in Pasco that began around 2 a.m. when the 7-Eleven at 23434 State Road 54 in Lutz was robbed. This is the second time in a less than a year that a shooting has occurred at the popular Carrollwood nightspot.
The two men shot early Sunday morning outside a Carrollwood bar have been identified, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The two men are Yakim Williams, 27, of Tampa and Sheldon Lillie, 31, of Temple Terrace. Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the double shooting that took place around 3 a.m. outside Whiskey Park North, 11921 N. Dale Mabry Highway. A man and a woman are wanted in connection with a recent burglary and fraud case in Carrollwood.
Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies are looking for help to identify a man and woman they say might be responsible for a December auto burglary at Countrywood Apartments. The incident took place sometime between the evening hours of Dec. 18 and the early morning hours of Dec. 19 at 12101 N. Dale Mabry Highway. Deputies say this is when someone entered a victim’s locked vehicle and took out a wallet that contained debit cards, credit cards and a driver’s license. Around 3:49 a.m. Dec. 19, a man and a woman used one of the victim’s credit cards at the 3420 Handy Road Shell station. The victim’s card also showed two charges from the Countywood laundry room. Hillsborough deputies say he has a penchant for the Android 4G LTE model.
Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies are looking for help to catch a thief they say stole 67 cell phones from the Metro PCS at 4545 Gunn Highway. According to a sheriff’s office media release, the crime took place Dec. 18 around 4:36 a.m. The suspect smashed out the store’s front window with a brick and then took 67 Android 4G LTE phones before leaving in what is believed to be a late model, silver Honda Prelude. The suspect’s description is sketchy, but deputies say he’s a white male in his 20s and has a medium build.
