Carrollwood Cultural Center Kicks Off Summer Concert Series

Blues, country and comedy will be a part of this year's series.

This year's Carrollwood Cultural Center's Summer Concert series is about more than music. The lineup for the 2013 Summer Concert Series was recently released. The concerts are held from May through August. The concerts are generally held at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Blues singer Beautiful Bobby Blackmon will kick off the series with a concert on Friday, May 31 at 8 p.m. Next, the center will host the third annual Girls Night Out Comedy Show on Friday, June 21 with headliner Traci Kanaan, Long Island Mary and emcee Robin Savage. Country singer Aaron Parker and the garage band The Lint Rollers will also perform during this year's concert series. Cultural Center Kicks Off Summer Concert Series Soon

The Carrollwood Cultural Center’s summer lineup includes a little something for everyone.

Carrollwood residents who want to add a little music and laughter to their summer don’t have to drive far to get the job done. The Carrollwood Cultural Center, 4537 Lowell Road, is kicking off its 2013 Summer Concert Series May 31 and has events planned throughout the summer. First up in the series is blues and classic R&B singer Bobby Blackmon on May 31 at 8 p.m. Live comedy fans get their time in the sun June 21 at 8 p.m. when Traci Kanaan takes the stage during the Girls Night Out Comedy Show. She’ll be joined by Long Island Mary and Robin Savage, who will serve as emcee for the night of laughter. Country music fans aren’t being left out either. Saturday Morning Market Coming to Carrollwood

The once-a-month market is leaving Westchase to set up shop in Carrollwood.

Since October, the monthly Fresh Market at Westchase has taken up residence on the grassy lawn near Maloney's Irish Pub, providing fresh produce, a variety of vendors and activities for the community. But those are just memories now for residents of the nearby community. The market is moving the fun from Westchase to Carrollwood starting in May, according to this Tampa Tribune article. Apparently the move was necessitated by safety, according to market organizers. Power lines located near the Westchase market location were making it dangerous for certain vendors. Those using tents with metal were experiencing shocks when the grass was wet, Greg Barnhill, director of operations for the market, told the Tribune. The grassroots company Tampa …

Cultural Center to Unveil Lineup of Spring, Summer Classes

Residents can sign up for classes at the Carrollwood Cultural Center during the April 4 open house.

Residents wanting to learn how to take better photos with their digital camera, how to play the guitar or how to choose the best foods for healthy living are invited to an open house at the Carrollwood Cultural Center April 4 to check out the center's lineup of spring and summer classes. At the Carrollwood Cultural Center, 4537 Lowell Rd., Tampa, you can learn a new skill, revisit an old one or simply check one more thing off your bucket list. Classes include music, dance, art, fitness, nutrition, computers and are available for residents age 1 to 100. 2-Day Festival Marks Cultural Center’s Anniversary This Weekend

The annual Arts in the Park at the Carrollwood Cultural Center takes place March 16-17, marking the facility’s fifth anniversary.

The Carrollwood Cultural Center is turning 5 and you’re invited out to celebrate this weekend, March 16-17. The annual two-day Arts in the Park festival takes place in the park behind the center at 4537 Lowell Road. Attractions include displays by local artists, hands-on activities for kids, food vendors and live entertainment. Art on display will include jewelry, fiber, photography, mix media, watercolors and more, according to center spokeswoman Adrienne Hutlemyer. “We're going to have around 40 vendors at the event along with food vendors, a sidewalk book sale and activities for kids,” she said. “At the Center's tent, we are going to have some surprises in honor of our fifth anniversary. Paintings in search of a poem. Poems in search of a painting. Artists and poets interested in submitting work for Visual Poetry 2012 are invited to a free workshop Feb. 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carrollwood Cultural Center. Artists should bring a few painting, portfolio or photo album. Poets should bring sample of poetry that might illustrate a painting. Cultural Center Delivers Laughter, Drama

The Carrollwood Cultural Center has several shows on tap for February, including an appearance by acclaimed British actor David Payne.

Carrollwood area residents hoping to catch live theater with a twist of comedy or a dash of drama don’t have to drive far. The Carrollwood Cultural Center’s February lineup delivers both laughter and tears. On tap this month are two special appearances by acclaimed British actor David Payne in his one-man production of “An Evening with C.S. Lewis.” This performance shouldn’t be missed, said Evelyn Bless, vice president of the center’s board of directors. "When I saw ‘An Evening with C.S.
