Book Swap is Still Open for Business

Construction at the Village Center has some customers wondering if the store is still open.

Carrollwood and Northdale residents who have been concerned that Book Swap has closed its doors in the wake of ongoing construction at the Village Center have no cause for alarm. The longtime, 13144 N Dale Mabry Highway, business is still around to serve. Owner Cynthia Floyd says she does field phone calls from customers wondering if her store is still open for business. After all, construction on the plaza’s southern end does make the store a little difficult to get to. Courtesy of ongoing renovations at the plaza, access to the extreme southern-end stores is only open via South Village Drive. That means customers who are used to pulling in from Dale Mabry Highway have to take a different path. To complicate matters, the ongoing work does…

I have used FAST EDDY for 6-7 years. I contract with him, and mows, trims, and blows leaves every week during the summer. In the winter, he comes every other week, but the price is the same. I have a rather small lawn, but he only charges me $75.00 per month! Excellent work, and will do 'other jobs' at various charges.   more ›

Nearby Construction Not Stopping Bearss Groves

Nearby home construction has changed the landscape near the produce business, but local shoppers will find the same great fresh fruits and vegetables available.

Barry Lawrance began working at Bearss Groves when he was 13 years old. As a teenager growing up in the Northdale area, it was a great gig for a kid who wanted to be outside and who loved working the land. Through the years, he did it all; from helping pick oranges right off the trees to selling fruit to customers who drove to the 14316 Lake Magdalene Blvd. produce stand from all over the region, including Carrollwood, Lutz and North Tampa. Now, Lawrance and his wife, Courtney, own the business. Barry first bought the Bearss’ juice business back in the late 1990s with a partner. Not too long ago, he bought the retail end of the business, including the land on which the Bearss Groves produce stand sits at the corner of Bearss Avenue and …

Kelvin...that is how it should be! I also joined another gym (other than Shapes) and no longer quiver in disgust when I enter the womens restroom areas. You know if a gym is noticeable dirty at 8am, then that means the people who closed the night before cleaned absolutely nothing! Sometimes the trash cans are full in the mornings at Shapes. I do want to add that I don't believe this is the case …   more ›

It's a very competitive field. Sweetbay was up against Publix, not so much Walmart. However, Publix - "where shopping is a pleasure" - knows that they can charge higher prices, to cover the nicer overhead. Sweetbay, on the other hand, was just a marginally cleaner Kash-n-Karry. I used the one at Gunn & Casey as a convenience only. For nearly sixteen years I've driven past it to hit the Publix at …   more ›
