Carrollwood area residents can eat out for a good cause Saturday, May 11.
Hungry, but not sure what sounds good? The folks at Ben Hill Middle School have plenty of solutions to offer you today, May 11. A gourmet food truck rally is being staged at the 5200 Ehrlich Road school from noon to 5 p.m. Presented by Generation Food Truck, the rally is anticipated to draw more than 50 food trucks from all over the Tampa Bay area while serving as a fundraiser for the local school. Generation Food Truck is spearheaded by Carrollwood’s own Jeremy and Candy Gomez. Generation is an organization that puts on food truck rallies throughout Tampa Bay and beyond. Gourmet and food trucks. While those two things might not normally seem to go together, an upcoming event hopes to change that. On May 11, gourmet food trucks plan to rally at a local school for a blow-out fundraiser. More than 50 food trucks and vendors from Tampa, Orlando, Gainesville and Clearwater are set to arrive at Ben Hill Middle School, 5200 Ehrlich Road, just in time for lunch. A 12-year-old miniature pinscher will assist hearing-impaired students at the school.
There's been an addition to the student body at Ben Hill Middle School. But this is no typical backpack-toting teen aimlessly wandering the halls in search of Spanish class. The new classmate is a 12-year-old miniature pinscher named Parris who arrived at the school Wednesday, Feb. 27, bringing a valuable lesson about caring. Given up by his previous family because of financial hardship, Parris was suffering from heartworm disease when he was dropped off at Hillsborough County Animal Services. However, Parris came with a special talent that Animal Services Director Ian Hallett recognized could be of great value. Parris is a trained service dog for the hearing impaired. Westchase Patch Editor Nicole Hutcheson will participate in the Great American Teach-In Thursday.
On Thursday, Nov. 15 more than 350 professionals will be visiting schools throughout Hillsborough County during the annual Teach-In, according to the Hillsborough County school district. Volunteer speakers include active members and veterans of the United States Armed Forces; police, firefighters and paramedics; and animal trainers, attorneys, business professionals, chefs, elected officials, entrepreneurs, musicians, and school board members. Westchase Patch Editor Nicole Hutcheson will speak at Ben Hill Middle School. The Teach-In is presented by SERVE, the volunteer arm of the school district, and brings professionals and hobbyists into local schools to demonstrate to children the benefits of getting a good education.

I saw this little guy featured in TBT on Sunday and thought "Surely someone needs to have that smart little dog." Now, a lot of "someones" will, to the benefit of all!
