How Carrollwood Can Help Oklahoma Tornado Victims

The tornado struck on Monday afternoon.

After a 2-mile wide tornado sliced through the Oklahoma City suburb of Moore, killing dozens in its path, the American Red Cross is accepting donations for those affected by the tragedy. Red Cross Launches Online Course For Families

American Red Cross Launches Online ‘Coping with Deployments’ Course for families supporting the military deployment of a loved one.

The American Red Cross is now offering an online version of its "Coping with Deployments" course, designed to promote resilience in families supporting the military deployment of a loved one. There is no cost to to register or to take the course, said Janet McGuire, Regional Communications Officer for the American Red Cross. "Participants can return to the course as often as they like and take as many modules as they like," McGuire said. McGuire also noted that the course works best on Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Safari; however it will work on Firefox but with some limitations. Red Cross Offers Safety Tips During Fire Prevention Week

National Fire Prevention Week is October 7-13.

The American Red Cross is encouraging everyone to be extra aware of fire hazards in their home during October 7-13 during National Fire Prevention Week. Last year, the Red Cross responded to about 63,000 home fires across the country by providing comfortnand basic necessities to more than 82,000 families. "We respond to about one home fire every nine minutes across the country. The best thing you can do to protect your loved ones is to install a smoke alarm and develop and practice a fire escape plan," said Linda Carbone, CEO of Florida's West Coast Region and the Tampa Bay Chapter.
