35 Bags Of Trash, 4 Tires And Something We Can't Explain

Patch.com employees spent an afternoon cleaning up around Tampa Bay.

At Patch, we believe that you can’t really cover your communities and serve them, just because you live in them. You need to go the extra step and provide the help it needs most, which is why giving back is so important to us.

Because of that feeling, Patch has an initiative called Give 5. Everyone at Patch, from our editors to our marketing folks and product design team gives back by volunteering. We also give back 5 percent of our advertising revenue to local charities.
This week, Patch employees from more than 900 sites from New York to California will take part in a Give 5 event.

On July 23, here in Tampa Bay, Patch Editors from many of our 23 sites partnered with Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful to help give some TLC to an area of Tampa Bay that needed it.

We spent the afternoon dodging rain drops to pick up trash along Hillsborough Avenue and then we made our way north on George Road.

We collected more than 30 large bags of trash along the roadways. We also found four tires, a mattress, a couch and a few strange things we're just not sure how to describe.

Thanks to the drivers who honked and waved to us as we moved in a swarm of yellow vests and green Patch T-shirts along the road.
