Kids Can 'Run Away to the Circus' this Summer

Magic tricks.

Face painting.

Those are just a few examples of the skills youngsters can learn in the Carrollwood Cultural Center's specialty camps this summer. The 4537 Lowell Road facility is playing host to a number of different camps for children ages 4 to 15, many of which boast a circus theme.

The camps run from June 11 through Aug. 17. While registration is open until camp begins, parents are encouraged to register their kids at least two weeks in advance.

This year, kids can attend specialty camps that include mural painting or theatre, said Adrienne Hutelmyer, marketing and community relations director at the center. Early morning and extended care are also offered, she said.

The summer camp programs at the center include topics such as "Be a Circus Animal," where kids can learn how to perform as their favorite circus animal, to "Dance Around the World," which will teach them to tango or samba.

Paul Berg, executive director of the center, said he wants kids to attend summer camp at the center to learn as much as they can about the arts.

"We hope they take something home with them, an exposure to the arts that will stay with them," he said. "A lot of camps are there to keep kids busy, but we want kids to learn something."
