Gaither Football Travels to Tampa Bay Tech with District Title Hopes

The Cowboys are on the tail end of a tremendous, comeback season, having already clinched a spot in the playoffs. A date with TBT will decide the District 7 title.

The Gaither High football team (6-2, 4-0 Class 7A-District 7) has turned the ship around. It has already guaranteed a 2011 playoff appearance and a winning record and has snapped a losing streak against Chamberlain.

They are not content.

The Cowboys face Tampa Bay Tech (5-3, 4-0) this Friday for the District 7 championship. It could be the start of a sizzling rivalry in north/central Hillsborough County. District 7 is full of fledgling schools with budding football programs.

TBT and Gaither have emerged as the most developed, and the matchup is enticing. TBT is the more offense-charged team, totaling more than 2,700 yards of total offense; more than 1,000 of those have come from the rushing and receiving of senior running back Clunder Lacount.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys get it done ugly. They have barely more than 1,000 yards of total offense on the year. They win with their defense. Both senior linebacker Josh Scarberry and junior linebacker Logan Marshall average more than 10 tackles per game. Scarberry's 14 sacks not only lead the district, they are third best in Class 7A.
