USF Falls to Tennessee in 'TODAY Show's College Challenge'

The University of Tennessee overtook the Bulls in Kathie Lee Gifford's and Hoda Kotb's contest.

Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, hosts of the fourth hour of the TODAY Show, won’t be broadcasting live from the University of South Florida.

“It was a heated competition between Syracuse University, Ohio State University, University of Tennessee, Brandeis University, University of South Florida and Creighton University,” a post on their website reads. “So after receiving almost 150,000 votes, the winner of Kathie Lee and Hoda Go Back to College contest is ... the University of Tennessee!”

TODAY Show correspondent Sara Haines visited the USF campus on Sept. 20 as part of the contest. She did live segments on the show from the Marshall Student Center bull fountains, and a crowd of students cheering and wearing green and gold told Kathie Lee and Hoda why they should come to USF.

“Well, we heard that Kathie Lee and Hoda like to have a good time, and clearly we know how to throw a party, right guys?” said one student. The crowd cheered and waved. “So, why not come to sunny Tampa and enjoy a little slice of paradise?”

Another student asked Hoda to marry him and encouraged her to travel to USF so he could propose in person.

USF’s Beef Studs and Babes said they’d paint Kathie Lee and Hoda in school colors.

“Anybody looks good in green and gold,” they said.

On the show Monday, Kathie Lee and Hoda announced they would be broadcasting live from the University of Tennessee Oct. 1.
