The Back-To-School Roundup

Tuesday marks the first day of school for students in Hillsborough county. That means there  is shopping to be done, immunizations to be had and bus routes to be memorized.

So Patch compiled a list of back-to-school resources that are a must have for parents and students preparing for the first day of school on August 23.

Check it out:

1. Bus Routes - If your student is planning on riding the bus, it’s important to know what time the bus is scheduled to arrive and how close the stop is to your home. Click here for access to the Hillsborough County Schools transportation website. You can search for individual school bus routes.

2. School Websites - We can access the internet from our phones, work and any other place imaginable and the school district has taken notice. Each school in Hillsborough County has a website which features information on upcoming events, teacher email addresses and other vital contact information. Check out the school information portion of the school district’s website to find your school’s website. Make sure to bookmark the site to stay in the loop.

3. Immunizations - Hillsborough County requires that all students have certain vaccinations before entering elementary school and middle school. Throughout the summer the district has partnered with a variety of health organizations to offer free immunizations. The last chance for free immunizations are on Saturday, August 20. 4. Dress Code - Curious as to whether your child’s school has a mandatory or voluntary uniform policy? Check out this comprehensive list of which schools require what. Additionally, the student handbook lists what is and isn’t appropriate to wear to school. Disciplinary measures are taken when student’s are found to be wearing something in violation of the rules.

5. School Supplies - By now you probably have a list of what school supplies you need to stock up on. Before braving the crowds double check the school’s website for any other items that your student may need. Lastly, Tuesday will be a scorcher with highs in the low 90’s, according to www.accuweather.com. Make sure to bring an umbrella for a chance of afternoon showers.
