Independent Day School-Corbett Campus Changes Name

The school is located on 12015 Orange Grove Drive in Carrollwood.

This fall, students at Independent Day School-Corbett Campus will have to practice saying the new name of their school on Orange Grove Drive in Carrollwood.

That's because the Board of Trustees at IDS-CC changed the private school's name to Corbett Preparatory School of IDS in honor of community leader and Cornelia Corbett, according to a news released on the school's website.

“For more than 25 years, Cornelia Corbett has been the most ardent IDS advocate, supporting every aspect of the school with ideas, time, leadership, vision, wisdom, and philanthropy,” said Board of Trustees President Jim Conlin in the news release. “We are extremely pleased with the opportunity to honor her family in this way.”

Corbett, a former case worker for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children in New York, was also an IDS parent and volunteer who served on the Board of Trustees, the news release said.

The new name of the school, which educates students in grades pre-K through eighth grade, became effective on July 1, and will be rolled out for the 2012-13 school year.

In addition, the Board of Trustees decided to honor IDS founders by renaming a few halls in the school, which was founded in 1968. Corbett Hall will now be called Gatlin Hall in honor of founder Marilyn Gatlin, and a breakout training room inside the Farish Center will be named The Anderson Room in honor of co-founder Betty Anderson.
