Grandparents Honored At Corbett Prep

Corbett Prep kicks off holiday season with family and friends.

This news comes from Corbett Preparatory School:

During the week of Thanksgiving, Corbett Preparatory School of IDS students spent the morning sending the message “Today is a grand day!”

Grandparents and grandfriends from all over the world including Turkey, Venezuela, India, and Mexico were honored guests as students from PreK3-eighth grade sang, danced, and acted on the stage, in the aisles, and all over the gym in the joyous Corbett Prep kick off to the holiday season. After the  performances, students and their grandparents shared special moments together in the classrooms with their teachers.

Corbett Prep trustee Christina Swanson, who has attended many Grandparents Days, decided that there are more opportunities for grandparents to connect with their grandchildren’s school than the once a year tradition. Grandparents and Grandfriends at Corbett Prep have decided to put their experience, wisdom, and vitality to good use in the newly formed Grandparents/Grandfriends Club. They are banding together to find ways to volunteer, support, and add their own bit of magic to the joyous experiences their grandchildren experience every day.

Mrs. Swanson, also grandparent of eighth grader Gabriel Paggio, formed the Grandparents/Grandfriends Club to engage Grandparents and Grandfriends in meaningful opportunities to support and feel a part of the Corbett Prep family.

“We saw the success of the Dads’ Club as well as other groups, and we knew we had potential for a very active group of grandparents. We were pleased to see such a great turnout for the first meeting. We even had a grandparent who traveled from Lakeland to attend,” Mrs. Swanson said.

The inaugural meeting was held on November 2, 2012, in the aptly named “Grand Room” on Corbett Prep’s campus. Over coffee and a continental breakfast, Headmaster Dr. Joyce B. Swarzman shared with everyone the school’s vision of “A Real 21st Century Education.”

Mrs. Swanson said the seminar was “very well-received.”

Grandparents and Grandfriends also engaged in lively discussions and activities designed have them talking.  They shared ways in which they see themselves contributing to the school. Grandparents who have already become involved related their experiences.

“We really enjoy volunteering at the school and being able to know our grandkids’ school and their teachers,” said George and Peggy Shannon, grandparents of current eighth grader Adler Shannon.

Corbett Prep offers an exciting and engaging education by creating a dynamic learning community. It’s All About Kids: Every Child Deserves a Teacher of the Year, the school’s published book, provides insights into the positive philosophies that guide the teachers. They believe that every child’s uniqueness should be appreciated to allow each student the environment in which to soar to higher levels of achievement and success.

The newly formed Grandparents/Grandfriends Club is looking forward to sharing future opportunities for these very important family members to be a part of this outstanding school. They say, “It’s all about grandkids!”
