"Trayvon Martin and the Media" at USF's Patel Center for Global Solutions

The public is invited to attend a free forum, "Trayvon Martin and the Media", hosted by the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists.

Moderated by Ernest Hooper, Tampa Bay Times' Brandon bureau chief, the forum will feature a panel of local media and law experts will discuss media coverage of the case, how social media played a role in media coverage, the Stand Your Ground law and legal aspects of the investigation.

Panelists include:

  • Eric Deggans, media critic at the Times;
  • Dr. Kenneth Minton, an adjunct professor at St. Leo University and Hillsborough Community College, who is a former sheriff's deputy and Stand Your Ground law proponent;
  • Karin Moore, an Orlando-based defense attorney and FAMU professor.
