County Commissioners Vote to Make Cuts to After-School Programs

Budget woes prompted talk of cuts

If you've been following the Hillsborough County Commissioners decision on what to do with the county's after-school programs, here's an update:

The commissioners on Wednesday voted to scale the programs back in the midst of another tough year of budget cuts, according to a story in the St. Petersburg Times.

After school programs at 42 county parks will now be consolidated into 11 recreation centers across Tampa Bay.

In May, Bobbi Davis, who works in resource development at the Children's Board of Hillsborough County, made a presentation to parents at the Northdale Recreation Center, 15550 Spring Pine Drive, about what the cuts would mean.

Davis said today that parents can be assured that they will be able to find new programs for their kids to attend.

"There is a transition plan in place, so every parent enrolled in county parks will get a letter with some very helpful and constructive information to help get a new site for their kids," she said. "It will be reasonably in time for school to start."
