Carrollwood Quarterbacks Mount up for Sling and Shoot

This weekend, both Carrollwood Day School and Gaither High will take their newfound quarterback tandems into action

The USF Sling and Shoot will host more than 50 teams in a seven on seven competition, which begins today.

Here's how the competitive tournament will work, according to USF's website:

"Recognized as the largest passing tournament in the southeast, you will compete against the best competition in the country. The first half of the tournament, the teams are placed in brackets, and play games in a 'Round Robin' format to determine seeding for the single elimination playoff on Sunday."

Carrollwood Day won the Central Florida Shootout a couple weeks ago, but that was against other small, private schools.

Gaither finished fourth at the BCP tournament, but there were only 16 teams at that one.

Both teams will face competition they've never seen before, both will face tough challenges and both will have numerous opportunities to try out both of their quarterbacks.

There is also a "big man" competition for the offensive and defensive linemen, and players will complete obstacle courses among other events.

It all begins at 9 a.m. today and continues on Sunday on the USF campus, 4202 E. Fowler Avenue.

Stay tuned to Carrollwood Patch for updates on the tournament.
