'Brilliant Bugs' at IDS-CC Aid Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

The first and second graders made the donation today to the Florida Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Students in the first and second grade multi-age class at Independent Day School-Corbett Campus in Carrollwood, known as the Brilliant Bugs, presented a check this morning to Mary Calvert from the Florida Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for $678.

Students made and sold 240 Squirmy Wormy Icy Delights - popsicles with a gummy worm surprise inside - and collected additional contributions that added up to their largest donation to date to the Foundation.

Calvert explained to the students that the money will be used to help develop new medicines for CF patients. Students asked questions in their eagerness to learn more about CF. The project taught students the value of service to the community and provided an opportunity to apply economics lessons to a real-life experience.
