Veterans Expressway Goes Mostly Cashless

Cash is no longer king.

At least that’s the case on the Veterans Expressway as a plan to move to an al-electronic toll system kicks into action. The plaza at Anderson shuts down for good tonight, June 13, at 9 p.m. as part of Florida Turnpike’s push to move to an electronic toll system, according to Bay News 9.

Motorists will now have to use a SunPass or pay by mail, which costs an extra $2.50, to use the road. The toll booths at Gunn Highway, Hutchison Road and Sugarwood are still active currently, but are expected to shut down later this summer.

Florida’s Turnpike invested $386 million in Veterans Expressway improvements over the last few years, widening the toll road and moving toward electronic toll collections.
