Veterans Expressway Construction: What You Need to Know

Whether you use the Veterans Expressway in your daily drive or you just hop on occasionally to make travel north or south a bit faster, there’s some construction news you need to know about.

As the $385 million expansion project continues, Florida’s Turnpike officials say drivers should be mindful of these things the week of July 15:

Linebaugh Avenue to Gunn Highway

• Clearing work continues this week in both the north- and southbound right-of-ways near Linebaugh Avenue and northbound near Wilsky Avenue.
• Temporary widening and some paving work in the median continues in both the north- and southbound lanes. Expect some overnight, inside lane closures.
• The Gunn Highway on- and off-ramps will be worked on this coming week with temporary widening and paving planned. Florida Turnpike only expects the shoulders to close.

Waters Avenue to Linebaugh Avenue

• Anderson Road ramps are closed until further notice.
• A new traffic patter begins through the Anderson Mainline Toll Plaza at 9 p.m. July 21. The two southbound lanes close on that date until further notice.
• The northbound off-ramp at Waters Avenue closes continuously starting Friday, July 19 at 9 p.m. The closure is expected to last until 6 a.m. Monday, July 22. Use Hillsborough Avenue to the south of Linebaugh to access Waters Avenue.
• The southbound Waters Avenue on-ramp closes at 7 p.m. July 26 to 5 a.m. July 29 and again at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 to 5 a.m. Aug. 4.

Memorial Highway to Waters Avenue

• Hillsborough Avenue’s northbound off-ramp will be closed overnight though Wednesday, July 17. Drivers should take Memorial Highway to get to Hillsborough Avenue.
• The northbound on-ramp at Hillsborough closes from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. July 17 through July 19. Motorists should expect to be routed onto Benjamin Road.

Road closings may also impact Waters Avenue, Anderson Road, Henderson Road, Linebaugh Avenue and others that adjoin the Veterans Expressway.
