Opinion: School Board Candidate is the Right Person for the Job

Cindy Stuart, a Carrollwood resident, began her campaign in December

With her campaign as a candidate for Hillsborough School Board District 3 just in its second month, Cindy Stuart is already making a big impression on voters.

Stuart’s campaign became official in late December, after volunteers collected enough verified petitions to put her name on the ballot. This means that for the first time in more than 10 years voters will have a choice for a School District 3 representative in the August primary.

One of Stuart’s first official activities was the honor of accepting the Guidance Advocate of the Year Award, from the HCA Guidance Counselors organization. She was nominated for the award by representatives from Lake Magdalene Elementary, Citrus Park Elementary and Buchanan Middle School for her years of dedication and service to education. She was also one of many sponsors for Lake Magdalene Elementary's first 5k Fun Run in February to help raise money for the school, which brought out more than 400 participants.

Recognized as “a true partner in education,” Stuart has worked tirelessly to improve the education system in Hillsborough County for the past seven years. She is the immediate past president of the Lake Magdalene Elementary School PTA, where she also served on the executive board, and she is the past treasurer for Buchanan Middle School PTSA. Her years of experience and commitment within her local community schools has proven that the board needs to be directly connected to the community they serve.

“I have always believed in the transformational power of education as a volunteer, and advocate,” Stuart said. “I am dedicated to serving children and teachers and parents to help return our public schools to a position of high regard and respect.”
