Linebaugh Avenue Lane Closings, Other Detours: Veterans Construction Update

Even if you don’t drive the Veterans Expressway in your commute around town, there are some construction-related closings coming up this week you might want to know about.

Here are the major items motorists might want to take note of the week of Monday, Aug. 26, according to Florida’s Turnpike spokeswoman Christa Deason:

• Daytime lane closures on Linebaugh Avenue in both directions near the expressway are planned. Deason said this includes Aug. 30, for those folks who are hoping to get out of today for the upcoming Labor Day holiday.
• Nighttime detours along Hillsborough Avenue are expected in both directions for bridge demolition.
• Work on the Hutchison and Gunn Highway ramps continues this week and some detours might pop up. Drivers should be on the lookout for signage to help them navigate the road ahead. Deason says Anderson and Sheldon are the best bets to get around the work.
• Motorists who pass through the Anderson Road toll plaza need to take note of the new southbound traffic pattern. Deason said it’s very tight and the new temporary ramp has been moved further south. This means there’s less room to merge at the beginning of the ramp. The temporary ramp is also narrower than the old one.
• The Hillsborough Avenue southbound on-ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 p.m. through Wednesday, Aug. 28. Traffic will remain on Eisenhower Boulevard and will have to get on at the next ramp.
• The northbound off-ramp at Hillsborough will also close between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. through Aug. 28. Traffic will be detoured along Independence Parkway to George Road to access Hillsborough.

Other lane closures and detours are also possible as work continues on the widening project.
