Hillsborough's Battle of the Bands: Enter Now!

Only 15 bands will be accepted. Enter now to guarantee a slot in the October competition for teens.

Does your band rock?

If you think so, Hillsborough County wants to hear from you and your bandmates. Registration is now open for the 16th Annual Teenage Battle of the Bands, which is slated for Oct. 18 in Dover during the county’s fair.

The top band will receive free studio time — a coveted thing for most young artists, to be sure. Here are the details, according to the county:

  • Entry fee is $50.
  • Band members must be between 13 and 20 (a minimum of one member can be 20)
  • Judging is on guitars, drums, vocals, showmanship and originality.
  • Only 15 bands will be accepted so entering early is advised.
The aim of the annual bands battle is "to reach out to that different teenager, who might not be involved in sports but is involved in music, "Joe Soletti, of the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department, told Brandon Patch in 2012. "They're kids and they get to perform in front of the public."

You must pre-qualify by providing a link to an online video of the band and contacting Soletti at Solettij@HillsboroughCounty.org or 813-376-5778.
