This evening the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners will hear from the public and take a final vote on the 2013 county budget. The budget totals $3.06 billion and includes funding for two general funds, operating costs, debt service and capital improvement projects.

Included in the budget is $4.5 million dedicated to resurfacing 35 miles of roadway with a focus on high-traffic streets and another $9 million for sidewalk repairs throughout the county.

Capital improvements costs are $179.5 million and include several building and projects including expansions and renovations to fire stations like Carrollwood Fire Station #19 and the North Hillsborough Fire Station; library extensions for Bloomingdale Regional Library, Jimmie B. Keel Library and Upper Tampa Bay Library. Improvements would also be made to Keystone Park and the Upper Tampa Bay Trail.

To hear more details about the budget or to voice your opinion attend tonight's (Sept. 20) public hearing from 6 to 9 p.m. at County Center, 2nd Floor Boardroom, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd.
