Teen Pleads Guilty in Assault, Gets 6 Years in State Prison

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office pushed for the 16-year-old repeat offender to be charged as an adult after he was arrested earlier this year on multiple felony counts.

When Kobe Jospeh Brantley was arrested Feb. 2 on multiple felony charges, he wasn’t a stranger to the system.

That’s why the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office asked the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office to move the Citrus Park teen out of the juvenile system and into adult courts.

That move has resulted in the teen’s sentencing to six years in state prison, according to a media release from the sheriff’s office.

Brantley’s February arrest included such charges as aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, shooting at or into a building and felon in possession of a firearm.

He pled guilty to those charges on June 4 and was subsequently sentenced, the release said.

Brantley of 6565 Spanish Moss Circle had prior arrests for armed burglary of a dwelling, burglary of a conveyance, trespassing and violation of probation. The sheriff’s office’s Intelligence Led Policing Unit had identified the teen as a “prolific criminal offender,” according to the release.
