Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies have taken into custody a man who barricaded himself in
home in the area of Cypress Ridge Place and Country Run
The incident began when a call came in to the agency around 4 p.m. about a domestic violence incident in the area of Cypress Ridge Place and Country Run Road. When a deputy got to the site, he saw a man leaving in a car. The man saw the deputy following him, drove through a parking lot and then drove back to a home at Cypress Ridge Place.
He ran inside holding a firearm, according to an e-mail from the Sheriff's Office.
He closed all the home's blinds and locked the doors. A deputy tried to negotiate with him, but he was unsuccessful. The man indicated he wanted to take his own life.
The Hillsborough SWAT team was called out to the house around 4:40 p.m., and eight nearby residences were evacuated.
Crisis negotiators called the man, and they were able to talk him out of the home at around 6:45 p.m.
Before deputies had arrived on the scene, the man's girlfriend had been arguing with the man when he pulled a gun, the girlfriend told deputies. He held her at gunpoint and threatened to kill her and take his own life, she told deputies.
The man was taken into custody under the Baker Act. His name has not been released.
