Suspect In Carrollwood Assault Sought By Deputies

A call about a dispute in a front yard at 5110 Lawnton Court turned into a multi-hour standoff with deputies Feb. 11 and ended with three arrests. The main suspect in the case is still wanted.

According to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter, the sheriff’s office received a call about an argument on Lawnton Court around 9:30 p.m. The caller told officials that there were three men in the yard and it appeared as if one of them was “brandishing a shotgun.”

When deputies arrived on the scene, they saw two men leaving the scene in a pickup truck. They stopped the truck, Carter said, and found out those men were the victims. As they were talking to the two men inside the truck, they saw several people outside 5110 Lawnton Court.

At this point, Carter said, the people in the yard ran into the house. When deputies approached, they “heard what sounded like the pump action of a shotgun.”

Deputies then called for backup, Carter said. They set up a perimeter around the house and tried to make contact with the people inside, she added. They were able to reach one woman inside and were told that she and four other people were the only ones in the house. Neighbors told deputies they saw another person run out the back door of the home.

SWAT was called out at this point and negotiators continued to make attempts to contact people in the house, Carter wrote in a media release. After several hours, two women came out of the home along with four children. The women would not cooperate with deputies. More than an hour later, another woman exited the residence. She was also uncooperative, Carter wrote.

At 2:30 a.m., SWAT entered the home and found that the suspect, Victor Benavides was not there. Warrants have been issued for his arrest.

The women in the home were all arrested on obstruction charges. They are Aisel Burgos, 31, Lara Villacicencio, 42, and Glenda Callego, 27. Two of the children, boys ages 7 and 10, were turned over to child protection authorities. The other two children, boys ages 1 and 13, were released to family members, Carter said.

Benavides, the man in the initial dispute with the two victims, is still wanted on two counts of aggravated assault, resisting arrest without violence and violation of an injunction. U.S Border Patrol, Carter said, has also issued a warrant for his arrest. He is a previously deported felon who has now re-entered the United States illegally, Carter said.

The motive for the initial dispute remains unclear.
