School Mobilizes to Support Students After Teen’s Death

A 15-year-old Chamberlain student was found dead yesterday afternoon.

Chamberlain High School students started their morning with some tough news.

Principal Thomas Morrill had to tell the student body that their classmate, 15-year-old Casey May, died yesterday afternoon.

“It’s a tough day at Chamberlain today,” said Stephen P. Hegarty, spokesman for the Hillsborough County School District. “(The) principal made an announcement this morning letting students know there had been a tragedy.”

Hegarty said counseling support was being provided to both students and faculty members as news of May’s death rocked the campus.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, May was discovered around 3 p.m. March 22 in the bathroom of her home on Waterside Court in Tampa. Her grandmother found her.

Debbie Carter, sheriff’s office spokeswoman, called the death a possible suicide.

“At this time, preliminary indications are that May was upset over a relationship that she was involved in that had recently ended,” Carter wrote in a media release.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death. Few details are available at this time.

In the meantime, Morrill is spending his day reaching out to students and faculty at Chamberlain, Hegarty said.

“The principal is out on campus making sure everything is OK,” he said.

I had the pleasure of teaching Casey May when she was in middle school. She was an amazing little girl who brought smiles to all who met her. She was beautiful, smart, funny, and sweet. Casey had a mind of her own and enough spirit to succeed at anything she wanted. My heart breaks for all of her family and friends. Casey May, you will be sorely missed. I will smile fondly when I think of you and your crazy antics, darling girl!

I didn't know Casey but I do know that cheerco all stars from Tallahassee Florida supported her this weeken in wearing yellow bows for her. My brother tried to commit suicide he lived even though god works in weird ways there is always a reason and time and place. Even though this is a tragic loss in our cheer leading world maybe itll give some people some sense and to stop hurting other people just to make them feel better. R.i.p. Casey

Jady, I agree. I hope she got saved earlier in her life. So sad. What is sadder yet is how many lose their life before knowing Christ and what He did for them on the cross.
