WATCH: Mystery Surrounds Tampa 4-Year-Old’s Death

It’s still unclear whether a 4-year-old boy fell from green SUV or was pushed in the moments prior to his death on Sunday.

While the Tampa Police Department’s investigation is ongoing, some details have emerged. The boy has been identified as Marterrance Albury of Brittany Lane in Tampa. The incident unfolded around 9:46 p.m. as a witness watched a child fall out of the back passenger side of a green SUV, police spokeswoman Laura McElroy wrote in an email to media.

That witness called 911. When police arrived, it was discovered the boy had landed on his head and was subsequently run over by the back wheels of the vehicle. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he later died, McElroy wrote.

About 30 minutes after the accident, the boy’s 17-year-old brother approached police and told them he couldn’t find his little brother. The child had been left in the older brother’s care while their mother, Joantea Williams was out for the evening.

The boy died outside his family’s apartment complex on North Florida Avenue, just north of 109th Avenue.

When the boy’s mother returned home and learned of her son’s death, she “wanted to take her own life,” McElroy wrote. She has been subsequently hospitalized.

Police are continuing to interview the 17-year-old, McElroy said.
