‘I Just Want Justice’: Mom of Boy Run Over on Florida Avenue

Tampa police are still searching for the driver of a green or black SUV in relation to the death of a 4-year-old boy on Sunday.

While a new video released by the Tampa Police Department has detectives questioning their earlier theory that a 4-year-old fell or was pushed out of an SUV, the boy’s mother is looking for answers.

“I just want justice,” Johntea Williams told ABC Action News.

The station sat down with the grieving mother just before the Tampa Police Department released enhanced surveillance video that shows a small child walking on a sidewalk and into the road where Marterrance Albury was struck by a SUV on Sunday night on Florida Avenue, just north of 109th Avenue.

The surveillance video does not “definitively show Marterrance Albury,” police department spokeswoman Laura McElroy wrote in an email to media. Even so, “it does depict a small child running on the sidewalk and into the roadway.”

The video discounts an earlier theory that the boy fell or was thrown from the SUV that subsequently ran him over.

At this time, it is unclear if the driver committed a crime or if this “is a tragic accident,” McElroy wrote.

With that in mind, police are still searching for the driver of what is believed to be a dark green or black Ford Expedition. The SUV is shown in the department’s latest video as not stopping after coming in contact with the child.

The accident occurred just before 10 p.m. Sunday. Albury was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

Williams was out at the time of the accident. Her 17-year-old son was left in charge of Albury, but told police he couldn’t find the little boy. The teen is inconsolable, ABC reports.

Like Tampa police, Williams wants answers. She asks anyone with information about the SUV to “please call in.”

Marterrance will be laid to rest on Aug. 2.

“His life was cut short,” Williams told ABC. “He could have been anything he wanted to be.”

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Tampa Police Department at 813-231-6130.
