Driver Faces Charges in Dale Mabry Highway Crash

The SUV vs. fertilizer truck crash closed northbound lanes of Dale Mabry Highway for two hours May 6.

A Tampa motorist faces careless driving charges after Florida Highway Patrol officials say he caused a crash that led to a Hazmat call out and a two-hour closing of the northbound lanes of Dale Mabry Highway.

The accident happened around 7:49 a.m. today, May 6 as Ali Zumbado, 23, of Tampa was heading north on Dale Mabry Highway in a SUV when, for an unknown reason, he lost control of his vehicle and drifted into the center median. At that point, Zumbado’s SUV struck the rear portion of a pickup truck driven by Charles Eadens, 51, of Tampa. The truck was owned by American Lawn & Pest of Parrish, Fla., and was transporting liquid lawn fertilizer, a highway patrol media release said.

The crash caused fertilizer to spill onto the roadway. Hazmat was called out to clean up the spill while Dale Mabry’s northbound lanes from Humphrey Street to Busch Boulevard had to close for two hours.
