Sulphur Springs Families Benefit from Complimentary Laundry Project

SULPHUR SPRINGS, FL – (May 13, 2014) – The average American household washes between eight and 10 loads of laundry every week. Unfortunately, many low-income families are regularly forced to choose between paying for electricity and putting food on the table while forgoing clean clothes. Current of Tampa Bay’s Laundry Project was created to assist these families by not only covering the expenses incurred at laundry facilities, but also by providing the items necessary to wash their clothes. 

Current of Tampa Bay’s Laundry Project will be at the Big Wash Coin Laundry located at 908 E. Waters Avenue, Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. With more than half of its residents living below the poverty level, families from Tampa’s Sulphur Springs have benefitted from the Laundry Project before. 

“It’s a great feeling to be back in this neighborhood, where the community recognizes and appreciates our efforts to improve the lives of its residents,” said Jason Sowell, President of Current of Tampa Bay. “With so many great things being done to help restore Sulphur Springs, we’re excited to be a part of them.”  

Revitalization of the Sulphur Springs neighborhood is a key initiative for Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and several local organizations are working in conjunction with the city to improve the overall living conditions. Most recently, street lights were installed, code enforcement officers were assigned to the area and dozens of unsafe, abandoned houses were demolished to make room for new homes.

Tampa based Vistra Communications, a Public Relations and Marketing Solutions Agency, is partnering with Current of Tampa Bay to sponsor the event. Volunteers will be on hand to assist families where needed. Members of the community can also contribute by donating much needed supplies including detergent, quarters (rolls of $10), one-gallon Ziploc bags, garbage bags, coloring books, crayons, fabric softener and laundry baskets.
