Why Does My Blog Suck?

Having a blog can be a benefit to your business, but you have to use it consistently in order for it to be effective.

This is what I have been asking myself for the last couple weeks, even though I know the answer to the question.

It sucks because I haven’t written anything in it for some time now. That’s pretty sucky, don’t you think? So, what to do now? How about a post? Makes sense … about what? About how your blog sucks because you never post! Umm, ok?

Where am I going with this? Because every one of us has an opportunity to expose our businesses and introduce our services or products via social media, but we don’t do it. Why?

For the same reason we don’t exercise. My excuse (and that’s exactly what it is, an excuse) is that I’m too busy working to work on my own social media. LAME! So, I have always recommended that my clients set a schedule for their posts, tweets, status updates, what have you. Maybe I should start walking the walk, too!

If you set a reasonable goal of blogging once a week, you are helping yourself out more than you know.

What should you write about? Well, not about yourself. Let me explain. I often ask in my training seminars, ”Would you watch or subscribe to a TV or radio station that was only advertising?” No, you wouldn’t.

So, don’t make your blog all advertising about you. Share relevant information; entertain; talk about current news and casually refer to your business or product occasionally.  You want to establish yourself as a resource or expert, not as a blowhard who talks about how great their product or business is.

In closing, I believe that my blog sucky-ness has been slightly lessened after this post. Hopefully, yours will too.
