Benefit Concert "For the Love of Lucia"

Corbett Prep Community Comes Together "For the Love
of Lucia"

Lucia Aurora Ferlita will turn 1 on Oct. 4. She is bright
and bubbly with a smile that gives no hint of the medical struggles she faces.

Lucy, whose mother Lisa is a teacher at Corbett Preparatory
School of IDS, has a rare muscle disorder. She has low muscle tone, relying on
a feeding tube to eat and a ventilator to breathe. Her doctors are unclear of
her prognosis and what her future will bring. Numerous therapies have helped
her progress, and parents Lisa and Russell Ferlita hope to give their daughter
the best quality of life they can.

To help them, the Ferlitas’ Corbett Prep family organized
"For the Love of Lucia," a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept.
28, at the school’s Farish Center. Some Corbett Prep faculty and alumni have
put together a showcase of performances that include the sentimental, the silly
and, of course, the showstoppers.

Lisa Ferlita, a dance teacher, always puts others first.
“When you’re around her, you think you’re the most important person to her,”
says Headmaster Dr. Joyce Burick Swarzman. The benefit concert allows the
community to give back to the Ferlitas.
