Weekend Round-up: Fun Events for Families

Find out what you can do together this weekend

Here are five things you can do with your family this weekend:

  • If you like black and white art, a reception will be held tonight at the Carrollwood Cultural Center, 4537 Lowell Road. Artists will be present to talk about their work. The event is from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Find out more here.
  • Take the kids for a splash at the Bob Sierra YMCA's water park! The hours are: Monday-Friday 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon until 6 p.m.
  • Looking for some theater? "Going Green: The Musical" will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Carrollwood Cultural Center, 4537 Lowell Road. Find out more here. It's $7 for members, $10 for non members and free for kids aged 4 and under.
  • On Saturday, the Northdale Family Fun Festival will be held from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The free celebration will begin with the Gaither High School Marching Band leading a small parade of vendors, mascots, entertainers and a fire truck into Northdale Park, 15550 Spring Pine Drive. A diverse entertainment lineup offers something for all ages, and includes: Carrollwood Cultural Center’s Sounds of Swing, Irish music and dance, karate demonstrations and a performance by students of Mary Jo’s Performing Arts Academy. Games, face painting and inflatables are available for kids. 
  • Finally, learn more about African American literature by joining REAP, a reading group that meets each Friday at Barnes & Noble, 11801 N. Dale Mabry Highway. Find out more here.
