GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview March 17-20

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Carrollwood area.

It’s Thursday and the weekend’s just around the corner. If you’re still stumped on what to do, we’ve got some great ideas.

  • Where/When: Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery, 14457 N Dale Mabry Hwy. Thursday at 4 p.m.
  • Why Go: Its an Irish-themed party in the parking lot tonight at the Tilted Kilt! Stop by on your way home from work or school and enjoy festive beers, traditional Irish foods and live music. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the SPCA.
  • Price: No cover, food and drink prices vary.

James Johann Live at Side Splitters

  • Where/When: Side Splitters Comedy Club, 12938 N Dale Mabry Hwy. Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
  • Why Go: Midwest native James Johann brings his down home country stand-up show to Side Splitters this weekend. Johann has toured the country with a number of notable comedians including Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy. With nineteen years of experience under his belt, Johann will surely keep the audience in a roar of laughter throughout the night.
  • Price: $8-$14.50

  • Where/When: Carrollwood Players, 4331 Gunn Hwy. Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Sunday at 3 p.m.
  • Why Go: The Carrollwood Players present, Love, Sex, & the IRS, a full length play originally written by American writer and actor, Billy Van Zandt. The story follows two roomates, Jon Trachtman and Leslie Arthur as they illegally file their tax returns as a married couple, and trouble ensues.
  • Price: $16 Adults,$14 Seniors, Students, & Military. Call 813-265-4000 for reservations.

  • Where/When: GFS Marketplace, 11511 N Dale Mabry Hwy. Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Why Go: The 2011 NCAA Basketball Championships is well underway in Tampa this weekend, here's a chance to get your basketball fix while helping a great cause. GFS hosts Hoops For Soups, a public basketball shoot-out contest to raise money for the Hope House Soup Kitchen. Guests will be treated to free food samples, prize giveaways, and one lucky winner will walk away with a $500 GFS gift card.
  • Price: $1 for 3 shots.

Wine, Chocolate and Romance

  • Where/When:  Museum of Science and Industry,11315 46th Street North, Tampa. Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m.
  • Why Go: Plan ahead for a trip to the MOSI grounds as the 2011 Bay Area Renaissance Festival continues its theme weekends with a day wine and chocolate tastings from local vendors and an array of fun activities for couples. Bring your sweetheart to this 2 day festival and fall in love all over again. Enjoy couples grape stomping, pie eating contests, the sweet stroll, and free vow renewals all weekend.
  • Price: Adults $17.95, Children $9.95
