Former Democrats Turn Out to Support Romney

Gov. Mitt Romney's rally in Land O' Lakes drew some Democrats who have decided to vote Republican this election.

Lifelong Republicans were no doubt heavily represented at Saturday’s rally, but there were plenty of stories of former Democrats who now find themselves abandoning their party.

Among those ranks were Henry and Pat Claywell, seniors from Carrollwood.

“His policies, as far as the economy goes, are not good for another four years,” Henry said of President Barack Obama. “Hopefully we will turn this economy around” with Romney.

The couple went rogue, so to speak, during the last election.

“We liked John McCain a lot,” Pat said. “We thought he had a good plan.”

Although they both agree on Romney for 2012, they do not quite see eye-to-eye when asked if they will ever go back to voting for a Dem.

“No, I’ve learned better over the years,” Pat said.

“I wouldn’t say never,” Henry said.

Dora Kingery, who just turned 98 last week, is another lifelong Democrat who is choosing Romney this year.

“Romney has a number of things I admire,” she said. “He looks like a president for one.

“He doesn’t ever seem to be lost for words,” she added.

What doesn’t she like about Obama?

“He isn’t real,” she said.
