Florida Orchestra Principal Winds Quintet Performing at CCC

The group will be at the cultural center in October

The Carrollwood Cultural Center will welcome The Florida Orchestra Principal Winds Quintet on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., two days after returning from Havana and having completed the first phase of a multi-year cultural exchange with Cuba.

The concert at the Center is the only one scheduled in the Tampa Bay Area featuring the Cuba Tour program.

The cultural exchange program between The Florida Orchestra (TFO) and Cuba’s Music Institute of Havana (Instituto de Música de La Habana) includes an ensemble of principal musicians from TFO performing a concert and leading master classes at the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory in Havana with members of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

The musicians will also donate instruments and accessories to the conservatory. The cultural exchange program will mark the first time since 1999 that a professional American orchestra has sent musicians to Cuba, and only the second time since the 1959 revolution.

The members of The Florida Orchestra Principal Winds Quintet who will travel to Havana and later perform at the Center on Oct. 4 include: Principal Flute Clay Ellerbroek, Principal Oboe Katherine Young, Principal Clarinet Brian Moorhead, Principal Bassoon Anthony Georgeson and Principal French Horn Robert Rearden.

Members of the Carrollwood Cultural Center and TFO can purchase advance tickets by calling (813) 269-1310, or by visiting the Center’s Box Office, located at 4537 Lowell Road in Tampa.
