Flautist Jim Walker To Perform At The Carrollwood Cultural Center

The internationally acclaimed flautist Jim Walker will join Jim Burge and the Jazz Directions for a special Jazz with Jim concert at the Carrollwood Cultural Center on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Walker will also host a demonstration workshop for Hillsborough County secondary students at noon.

Walker, who may be best known in pop culture circles as the musician playing the penny whistle at the beginning of the single My Heart Will Go On from the Titanic soundtrack, is also known by professional musicians for his indelible marks in the music industry.

The founder of the jazz quartet Free Flight, Walker is well-known for his jazz innovations and classical technique. In addition to Free Flight, Walker held the Principal Flute position in the Los Angeles Philharmonic for seven years and has performed on hundreds of commercial recordings and soundtracks.

Admission to this special Jazz with Jim concert is between $20 and $26. Tickets are available online, at the Center box office, or by calling 813-269-1310.  Jazz with Jim is a monthly concert hosted by local musician and former Hillsborough Community College Director of Music, Jim Burge.
